March 2008:
2008 Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Andrew's first blue belt, Tommy Yun, competed in one of the biggest divisions of the entire tournament, men's blue belt lightweight. Tommy tapped his first two opponents in quick fashion, pulling guard and dominating, ultimately finishing with a triangle in both matches. In Tommy's third match, he faced a very tough Rickson Gracie student, coached by Rickson himself. In spite of being more agressive, with the score 0-0 (and no advantages), the ref awarded Rickson's student the win. Tommy didn't have a single point or advantage scored on him in any of his matches. We look forward to his performance at next year's Pan Ams!
George Pendergrass No-gi Classic tournament, held March 15th 2008:
Revolution BJJ's own Lenny Greenberg headed down to Wake Forest, North Carolina to compete in both the senior's and men's divisions.
Lenny took third in the senior's division, finishing his opponent with a rear naked choke.
Lenny also had a nice Revolution BJJ trademark straight ankle lock submission win in the men's division, making it to the semi-finals. Congratulations to Lenny!
A huge congratulations to Richmond BJJ head instructor (and VA BJJ Revolution Team leader) Eric Burdo, who beat rival Dennis Hayes in a tough and technical match by the score of 4-2.
BJJ Revolution Team took 3rd in the team points at the tournament, a huge accomplishment considering the 3 hour drive from Richmond! Congratulations to the team!
February 2008:
Mission Submission, Richmond, VA. Tommy takes 1st in the gi and 2nd no-gi advanced.
January 19th 2008:
in Richmond- U.S. Grappling's Dominion Grappling Championships. Barry takes 2nd no-gi intermediate, 3rd gi white belt. Justin takes 3rd in gi white belt absolute. Tommy takes 1st in blue belt lightweight and 1st in no-gi advanced.
January 12th and 13th 2008:
Andrew Smith brings home 2 golds and 1 silver (gold- advanced no-gi, brown belt masters, silver in men's brown belt) at the Bud World Cup.
December 15th, 2007:
U.S. Grappling's Mid-Atlantic Grappling Championships: In spite of only sending 5 guys total, BJJ Revolution team took home 3rd place! Revolution BJJ's own Tommy Yun took 2nd in no-gi advanced, losing to arch-nemesis Tim Koren. Tommy would win in the gi division, finally beating Tim. Congratulations to both guys for some great matches.

U.S. Grappling's Copa NoVA 2
This is Barry Schofield's no-gi matches at the U.S. Grappling Copa NoVA II, held in Sterling, VA on December 2nd. During Barry's first match, he hits a nice throw into side control to get ahead on points, then ends up on his back, where he catches the arm triangle for the submission.
In Barry's second match, he is able to take the back for the rear naked choke submission win. Notice how Barry is able to trap his opponent's right arm as he transitions to the back, making the choke much easier to secure. Congratulations to Barry on his gold medal (and his last beginner no-gi division).

Grapplers Quest Copa Atlantica
Andrew brings home 3rd place in the men's middleweight brown belt division. Tommy takes 4th in the men's blue belt after some tough matches.

Chrissy takes home gold in the women's white belt division.

April:
Several Revolution BJJ students competed at U.S. Grappling's East Coast Grappling Championships V.
Justin "Big Jus" Kornfeld got his first submission victory (a gi choke from the back) on his way to a third place win.
Amanda Milner had her first competition experience, and despite losing to bigger, more experienced girls, she got out there and fought, and had some very cool moments (including simultaneous guard jumping!).
Matt Williams and James Kennedy both had really tough matches but fought well. James took home 2 medals this time.
Andres Valbuena fought in the adult's division, despite being 17 years old. Dre fought well, losing by advantage and then by points to experienced adult competitors. Look for some wins from Dre in his next competition!
Tommy took home his first intermediate no-gi title. He also got 2nd in the open weight blue belt division and 3rd in his weight with the gi- not bad for a brand new blue belt.
March:
Tommy "Noooo!" Yun had an excellent jiu jitsu month.
1. Relson Gracie Worlds, Columbus, OH: Tommy won the lightweight white belt division, tapping both opponents in under a minute, and placed second in the absolute division....
2.Pan Ams of BJJ (CBJJ): Tommy submitted all six opponents with triangles and triangle armlocks, winning the lightweight white belt division!
With the blessing of Rodrigo Medeiros, Andrew promoted Tommy to the rank of blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the podium!
Andrew competed in the middleweight masters' division, winning his first match on points, and losing a tough second match on points. Video of both Tommy's and Andrew's matches coming soon!
Matt Williams, James Kennedy, and Andres Valbuena all took home multiple medals (and several golds) at U.S. Grappling's Junior Nationals! We're proud of all you guys.
